There is a quiet revolution afoot. Over one million new employer businesses are started each year in the United States. The U.S. Census Bureau’s Business Information Tracking Series (BITS) revealed that in the 1990s, 50% of these businesses closed within the first four years (Headd, 2003). It would therefore appear that a majority of business leaders are neither persuading enough clients nor adequately communicating the value of their ventures in sales interactions, and as such, their businesses pay the ultimate price: extinction.

Why is this the case, and how can businesses ensure that their ventures will succeed? The answer can be found by using story as a metaphor for business. Just as you are the anchor of your business, so too, you must become the hero in your customer’s story. Whether you are a small business owner, entrepreneur, or sales professional, the success of your venture is commensurate with your ability to make and tell an influential business story.

This presentation draws from groundbreaking doctoral research into the phenomenon of the business executive as storyteller, and shows you how you can make sure to craft and communicate the right business story for the right customers, thereby influencing them to positive action in your favor.

In this presentation, you will learn the 5 essential “S.T.O.R.Y” qualities for business success:

Story-making: How do you design your product or service in such a way that

it will both meet the needs of your clients and fulfill the purpose of your

business?

Telling the story: How do you market and sell your product or service in

today’s oversaturated business landscape?

Orchestration: How do you create a business system that works without you?

Resources: How do you leverage other people’s money, time, and energy?

You: How do you improve your business by improving yourself as a leader?
