Luncheon Presentation: "Enrico's Entrepreneurial Entertainment" Dick Enrico, CEO, 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment Dick Enrico was born and raised in Chisholm, Minnesota. Upon graduation from high school, Enrico went into business for himself and has been traveling the entrepreneurial road ever since. Developing an idea, starting a company and giving it a shot is nothing new to Dick Enrico. His entrepreneurial spirit has taken 22 companies from the idea stage to either a success story or their respective graves. Although, some of his ideas are clearly more successful than others, Enrico never has been afraid to take a chance. Enrico did not have much money growing up, yet determination runs deep in his family. While his brother Roger Enrico, now the Chairman of Pepsico Worldwide took the traditional route and went to college, Dick graduated from high school in 1958, borrowed $21 from his mother, to fund the starter kit, and started peddling pots and pans. The $21 investment would result in a cash return significant enough to fund a number of Enrico's future entrepreneurial endeavors. In 1996, before cell phones were in every car, pocket or handbag, Enrico was pushing them under the name Car-Tel Mobile Communications. From home stereos (Sound Inn) to backyard storage sheds (Handi-Hut), Enrico gave his heart and soul. Whether it was a dream to open an Italian restaurant (Scarpelli's), or to sell waterbeds (Aqua Knight), or vending machines (United Crane), Enrico refused to take no for an answer.
When deciding whether to engage a business plan, Enrico has only one requirement, "I must know absolutely nothing about the industry so I don't come in with any bias." As family and friends will attest, Enrico knew absolutely nothing about his most recognized venture…2nd Wind Exercise Equipment. Sixteen locations later, Enrico has established 2nd Wind as the premier specialty fitness retailer in the country |
