Morning Workshop Meet Venture Magazine's Editors and Reporters - Get the inside scoop on how to get your company in the news. You Could Be the Next Story... In the workshops preceding the keynote address, the staff of Ventures magazine will each host a table and talk to attendees about how they can become sources. Each staff writer or editor will talk about what they look for in business stories and regular columns, how they like to work with sources, and answer any questions. The Ventures staff of writers and editors are top-notch business journalists who strive to provide the most useful advice to the owners of the Twin Cities' fastest-growing companies. You'll want to meet all of them, exchange business cards, and get to know what they cover so that you can become a media pro. The workshop topics will feature: Contributor Roundtable: Want to contribute an article to Ventures magazine? Managing editor Catherine Conlan will talk to potential contributors about how to make that happen. She also will talk about her column, the popular Real Life, which closes each issue. Financial Roundtable: Melissa Metzler, associate editor of research, writes Finance This and Private Eye every month in Ventures, two popular columns that offer how-to advice for business owners searching for financing. She'll talk about how she covers the money beat. Tech Roundtable: Liz Brissett, staff writer and web editor, is well-known in Twin Cities tech circles for her column, The Circuit, and for coverage of tech companies in every issue's tech section. You'll want to be in her Palm Pilot. Industry Focus Roundtable: staff writer Benno Groeneveld reports different industry trends, from technology to human resources to meetings to education, each month in the Focus section. Hear how to make Chat Room; his question-and-answer column that opens the Focus, and discusses how your company might fit into one of his feature articles.
