Breaking Through Barriers: Glass Ceilings, Old Fishermen, and Internalized Beliefs
Chris Heeter, wilderness guide, author, professional speaker

If you’ve ever been on a women’s wilderness trip, you have almost certainly encountered a fisherman along the way who asks the question, “You girls out here all alone?” With plenty of wilderness stories, some snappy responses to the fishermen, and a wry sense of humor, Chris guides you in an exploration of the barriers that women face.

You’ll leave a little taller and a little lighter, with a fresh outlook and a feisty resolve to break down the barriers – inside and out – that are getting in the way of being the most powerful, centered, and loving woman that you can be.

Recently featured on National Geographic Today, wilderness guide, author, and professional speaker, Christ Heeter practices what she preaches in some of the most challenging settings around: remote whitewater rivers in northern Ontario, dogsledding in Minnesota, and the high desert terrain of southern Utah. Chris has guided women’s wilderness trips for 20 years and is the author of “Daily Degradations for Women Who Should Know Better.” Chris brings a deep reverence for nature, and a tremendous passion for nudging even the most urban among us to connect with their own wilderness.

Women And Business History

In 1973, Sales and Marketing Executives of Minneapolis/St. Paul (SME) put together a half-day event called Effective Secretaries Seminar. Their goal was to present a premium program which would fill an inspirational void for the effective secretary.

In 1977, as the role of women in the workplace was changing, the seminar was renamed Women In Business and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale keynoted the day. He urged the participants to set new goals and reach for the highest possible level of professionalism. In 1980, SME expanded the program to a full day event, which included personal and professional growth workshops and nationally known speakers.

In 1996, the seminar was renamed Women And Business (WAB) to further reflect the evolution of this original event.
